We’re Mike and Mark, or to our friends and family ‘The Boys’. Some may say that we live in one of the most beautiful places in the world, that being New Zealand. We tend to agree, but we want more!
After trips to South East Asia and Australia, and countless long weekends spent exploring our own back-yard, we’ve now set our eyes on Europe. With flights costing a fortune and only four weeks annual leave a year, we can’t do it justice being based halfway around the world!
So we’re moving to London, with an epic 100 day journey on the way.
As serial planners we would never dream of selling up our lives and just hoping for the best. We are leaving with budgets, reservations, and lots of spreadsheets! We may have a tight budget and oversize backpacks on our backs but we’ve managed to do it all without spending one night in a hostel. Planning in advance has allowed us to book a house perched atop a cliff on Santorini and loft in Berlin for not much more than a grotty room at a backpackers!
The Boys Abroad is as much for our friends and family as it is for other keen travellers who might benefit from our experiences. We’ll be blogging about about what we’ve done, what we wished we’d done, and – because we love a good spreadsheet – provide a breakdown of costs to help others plan their own trip. Hopefully it’ll also inspire mum and dad to visit us 🙂
